There's a real accessibility barrier in shark science
Throughout Carlee's career, she noted the real barriers to access in marine and shark science. From limitations in education, awareness of the field, and the "pay to play" atmosphere of internship programs; being "the only" motivated Carlee to become "the first". She is eager to introduce more minority students to the field of marine science so no one else has to be "the only" in classes, in graduate programs, and on boats.
