Hey, I’m Carlee!
I’m a shark scientist and science communicator on a mission to educate others about sharks in my own authentic way. I’ve dedicated my life to studying these creatures, and really want everyone to know just how amazing and important to our oceans sharks are.
From my research in Belize to appearing on National Geographic’s Sharkfest, co-founding Minorities in Shark Sciences, and writing children’s books— I’ve found ways to make sharks and the ocean accessible to all!

I’m interested in the many aspects of shark tourism and its impact on shark behavior and ecology, mainly nurse sharks. I’ve also researched sea turtle interactions with trap fisheries in Florida.

MISS is a non-profit dedicated to increasing representation of gender-minorities of color in shark and marine science. I founded MISS with 3 other Black women shark scientists because we saw a need within our community for more accessible pathways to shark science!
